SHY
I had to look it up from a dictionary:
- Easily startled; timid.
- Drawing back from contact or familiarity with others; retiring or reserved.
- Distrustful; wary: shy of strangers.
- To draw back, as from fear or caution; recoil.
Synonyms: shy1, bashful, diffident, modest, coy, demure
These adjectives mean not forward but marked by a retiring nature, reticence, or a reserve of manner. One who is shy draws back from others, either because of a withdrawn nature or out of timidity: “The poor man was shy and hated society” George Bernard Shaw.
Bashful suggests self-consciousness or awkwardness in the presence of others: “I never laughed, being bashful./Lowering my head, I looked at the wall” Ezra Pound.Diffident implies lack of self-confidence: He was too diffident to express his opinion.
Modest is associated with an unassertive nature and absence of vanity or pretension: Despite her fame she remained a modest, unassuming person.
Coy usually implies feigned, often flirtatious shyness: “yielded with coy submission” John Milton.
Demure often denotes an affected shyness or modesty: Her assistant nodded in agreement, flashing a demure smile.
All the linguistics introduction is to talk about what happened last night; So I took my evil sister along with Blue & her 4 sisters to our “Zombies night out” as every Sunday, We had better seats this time, right in front of Zak. Place was packed unlike previous weeks bas all in all, same people go there every week. We sat down, ordered food & drinks and was chatting with Noura & Blue while listening to music. I remember first time I went there, there was only one girl in 7ejab “ME”! I was feeling weird, thinking what will people think, it’s not her place they’re probably thinking- next week sar fee 5! WOHO! I went like ok, am much comfortable now. Yesterday sar fee 7! WOHOOO! You see, the “gay” place invites weird faces; girls with pink colored hair, people with mexed up thoughts on their sex (I avoid labeling so no one leaves bad comments), girls with half their backs showing including their love handles which DOES NOT LOOK NICE!
Guy plays music, people get into trance start singing along, best part when he played Zombie by The Cranbberries, all our table started singing along… at least he’s got an audience. He caps off his routine & comes to greet us & goes like:
Him: “I know you started this!”
Me: “Why!”
Him: “You started this Zombie thing and they all sang along”
Me: ” Hmm, no we all did, I didn’t do anything, am shy”
Him: “YOU SHY! Noooo”
That’s when I wanted to smack Zak in the face *smaaaaaaaack*
Why did he say that! How can he judge me! What defines a shy person… Shy is not the opposite of outgoing, shy doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a good song.. shy doesn’t mean I have to stay at home or walk with my head down or not interact with the opposite sex in a decent manner… did he mean shy because of the 7ejab! I wonder….
What is your definition of a shy person!!
P.S: Leave religion out of it

I think I had a misconception of what shy meant. I was never a person who understood word’s definitions exactly. However, thanks for the clear definitions! :p I learned something today lol.

From what I understood from your post, Zak called you an “unshy” person because you sang, whereas a shy person would do so in a low voice and to themselves because they’d find it embarrassing if someone heard them.
I don’t know why you found that offensive either :/

yal thaki! It has nothing to do with sounding like a dying cat singing walla being Barbra Streisand even! What I don’t understand is what does that (singing), has to do with being shy or not , you understand. Offended because they associate words to unrelated things – occassions – shy is not showing all your body, shy is not cursing alot in public , shy is many other things besides that…
NO KITTY for you

And everyone like you should go hear him play besides you know the manager there you should go say hi to him since its been like a decade now since you last seen him…. So is that place good?
