Blogging for Community

Ok, so we’re all bloggers…

Oh yes, we are all smart & most have good command over written English…

Oh yes, we are all every where & post on any & everything…

Oh yes, most of us are all around blogs networking like crazy…

Oh yes, some of us are funny & others need to be wiped off the face of the blog sphere…

Oh yes, most of us complain & rant about life, love, work & food… *e7em*

Oh yes, we all post nice picture of pets, cars, outfits & shopping spree bargained items…

Have you ever, ever thought of blogging for a bigger & much more significant reason….

Do YOU believe that your blog, which is YOU after all, have the power to move things around ! Change something in your society… make a difference! Do you doubt that…. Well I don’t!

How many bloggers are there on Safat! How many based in Kuwait! Take the time to check the active bloggers – check how smart, talented, socially radiant some of them are…. Think what these people if put together, what will the outcome be! A great force… things don’t change easily but a single action would take us far

Do you think of the deprived, the people working in the streets with no salaries ! In the sun & heat [ Intlspatr wrote about this ]… Children selling perfume bottles at signals….. Orphans waiting for someone to reach their hands to… Pets being mushed under tires & others ending up stray in the streets to die …. People begging for money or food … & the environment …. Do you ever stop & think what happens if you start picking up litter off the beach… the already polluted beach..

We are in Ramadan right, did you ever see those feasts they have for those poor workers… Well, I did & it’s not something nice to see, it broke my heart – while we sit over a hearty meal, these people are satisfied with the minimum…

There’s a lot more… more that we can do with blogging than writing about “what I did today” or “how much I love you” posts…

Am just a person, who wants things to be perfect… for me, you & the next generation… yes am a perfectionist & it hurts me when I can’t do things right…

“BLOGGING FOR COMMUNITY”

This is what I want… this is what we need… why don’t we unite! Why don’t we start doing it right! Think what a major force we’d be… you think am crazy, well! At least am having my shot!

I have a plan… I have a vision…. I have a dream..

Do you see it with me… do you want to anyways *sigh*

BIG UPDATE: PURG IS IN PEOPLE! THE PURG IS IN! :P

  9. Intlxpatr Says:

People ARE trying to get these Bangladeshi workers home, as they are miserable, are not being paid, are being fed by grace of charity, and are not sending funds home.

Rev. Andy Thompson is spearheading an effort to get them home, during this Ramadan. You can contact him and find out who is working with him.

In addition, there are all kinds of charitable organizations here in Kuwait where you can give a morning or an afternoon, once a week, in service. PAWS and Animal Welfare League for abandoned and damaged animals, organizations for the disabled, organizations for the impaired, maybe the hospitals – you probably know these places and how to get involved better than I do.

Brava, Chikapappi. Yes, when God gives us talents, he expects us to use them in service to him!

    Blessed blessed Ramadan, habeebti

great post chika, i like it when people stop for a moment and assess the world around them… see how they can improve things for themselves or for others. let’s get it started!

Words are easier than actions, but that doesn’t mean it is not possible to achieve. Count me in.

  13. asma Says:

Hey Chika…Ok I have a slightly different opinion and I’m prepared for the attacks (BRING IT). When I first discovered the blogging world I was disappointed with the selection of blogs, I felt the vast majority of arab/muslim bloggers around my age (23) ESPECIALLY those living in the west focused their blogs on politics, religious da3wa, and community activism/awareness issues. Although I’m cool with all of those things I’m not going to look for blogs for that information-there’s very well organized volunteer organizations (which I’m actually part of), there’s the news and magazines, there’s religious text and books that are better tailored for those purposes.

I basically wanted to read about someone’s life that I can relate to and know that I’m not alone in my experiences and look at a life like mine from someone else’s perpective, this is something you don’t really get from movies, books and other publications. With a couple of exceptions I couldn’t really find that which is why I started my own personal blog, hopefully that’ll get the ball rolling with other like-minded individuals and they’ll start blogging too. Don’t get me wrong I’m all for community activism, I’m a big volunteer myself, but unless it’s personal I’m not going to blog about it because it’ll defeat the purpose of my blog nor am I going to read someone else’s blog about it. Hope to see you on my blog soon!

This is the bestest post ever ! We can make a difference … just need to come out of our comfort zone … thats all …

But somehow i feel people are paying more attention to animals in Kuwait than to the suffering humans !

    Peace !

  15. EniGma Says:

These Asian workers break my heart, wallah.

  16. Chikapappi Says:

    - Asma, I dropped by yesterday ;) – I am not doing anything here, at Chikapappi I mean, there will be a new blog designed & dedicated for this matter… :)

    - Grey, as I see it, some don’t care for both & that’s so sad… we can :)

Thanks all! Wow! Loved the response & I was just telling someone yesterday “am afraid people won’t back me up” – well am dead wrong….

I speak ONCE – actions take part after that… Till “Blogging for Community” has its seperate blog, I’ll be contacting those interested by mail or MSN if possible…. this means meet ups o brainstorming & I have a couple of things in mind enshallah :)

  17. MYK Says:

ASMA, you don’t have to do this on your blog. Neither do the rest of us. We could start a new blog altogether and each have a usernam to sign in and post.

  18. Chikapappi Says:

Yeah, this is the plan – I will start from tomorrow with the logo (in mind already) – guys can pitch in for slogans – I will get the domain enshallah *fingers crossed* – I don’t want a regular blog walla wordpress thing – I want videos of participants, people coming up with plans & ideas.. I want people to pay back to their society, each in his own way…

  19. asma Says:

hmmm well I’m open to that idea, I’ll check it out! Actually now that I reread your original post it sounds like a more local kuwaiti project which then would mean I couldn’t contribute if I wanted to, bas good luck with that idea

uffffff why do my comments have to wait moderation??????

  20. Chikapappi Says:

am here :P – I’ll remove the moderation option soon :)

Actually, you will be able – the website I wanna have would have video contribution of what a blogger any where in the world can do – may it be feeding pets! going around smiling at people! just being proud to be a blogger doing good :) wearing our soon to be released logo *enshalah*

    WOW nice post chika ..
as laialy said ” talk is easy now try to put it to action” I also want athekrich eb sha`3la mo a7ab6ech we are in KUWAIT! I would not rather to talk about it.

  22. sis4you Says:

I created my blog to say something sensible, I I have nothing I don’t. But before long I found myself atleast publishing 2 lame posts abt my feelings towards 2 differnt person. What does the comunity have to do with it? Ofcourse nothing.
I personaly joined this community to say something that very few say. Things that make me sick and happen around me. And one of those things is seeing laboures working in the hot heat of summer in Kuwait, seeng them clean the streets, Seeing a documentry on Sudanese children etc
I hope we can make a difference But recently when I was watching this news on Jazeera, it was abt a Jewsih writer who was concerned about the Palestinian well being. This writer said she worked for years, has best selling works but still she thinks he hasn’t made a difference on the community.
Do you think we can? If so then how? By writing? or my as u said ACTION?

  23. vyyvaa Says:

there is alot to learn in the blog community.. i think there are bloggers who devote their blog for a certain reason/theme/ cause.. and there are those who put it for their hobbies… or lives… i think sometimes u can read in one blog a silly post and another outstanding informative post… i believe thru my blog people learn a little about life as a married woman… sometimes i stray… but generally i tackle this issue. currently im giving this whole pregnancy thing a bad reputation with my nausea :D
