I ain’t 7aleema bas am getting it baby! SO BRING IT ONNNNNNNNN!!

work_careers_main.jpg

Am gonna start from the beginning – Chika’s humble beginning. Like most of you youngsters out there; I graduated from university as dumb as anyone can be! unaware of my future & what I wanted to be in this life…. I remember all I wanted to do was sleep, sleep & more sleep! Which I did!

Of course, no one can run away from a nagging mother, a materialistic society, the necessity of having a job to prove yourself & personality & the fear of not “actioning” all the theories you have studied during those 4 agonizing years! All I remember is being an ambitious person, those people that wouldn’t stay home during Summer holidays, I’d go looking for a part time job of which I can make money from, learn more by getting experience & widening my contacts base. I was an assistant teacher, I tried legal translation, I even worked at exhibitions ( at Business centers ONLY ) … made me some good dough which was wisely spent – am a shopaholic! :)

5 years ago I was supposed to go work for the first company that had an online shopping business in Kuwait, I was flattered by the offer & the fact that I only went through 15 minutes of a written exam & around 5 talking to the manager & the offer was ready on the spot!! Well, I went the next day and half way through the day I decided to leave & NOT come back again! No, am not crazy but I wasn’t comfortable at all! It was full of guys & at the floor where I was assigned, I was the only female so I sat there DYING to go to the bathroom but didn’t have the guts to ask one of the guys… I left to where my mom works and I met her manager (who is mine now), he let me in his office & started talking to me asking how I was & whether I found a job or not o of course me being me, I spilled everything to the guy. To my surprise he goes like: “How about you join us here!”. I was kind of terrified at the beginning since I’d be going to work with my mom, which means me being with her 24-7 & under her notice…

I went home, prayed estekhara & went the next day….

You know what job was assigned to me!!!! Receptionist! Yes, 4 years of Literature, Linguistics graduate to answer phones!!!! I was quiet, reeeeallllllllly quiet! I was sooooo angry also! I didn’t have anything to do about this but go home & curse, complain & curse more – I remember one time in Ramadan 2002, an angry customer called many times asking for this specific salesman who was out of office & when he eventually didn’t get what he wants, all his anger was channeled towards me… He took what he deserved – Good chikapappian attitude! Yup! This lasted 6 months which during I was able to come up with my own filing system, typed & did some reports for people who didn’t have secretaries & was involved in marketing a bit – did my first notepad design & printing deal…

My boss called me to say: “Chika, shloonich ma3a elshogol” – How are you with this job! Of course I tried to be AS POSITIVE AS I could be but he could read my face & he went like: “This was a training period for you; I needed you to tone down that attitude & this loudness and the reception is like the best disciplinary job for you” !!!!!!!!!! Khaaaaaaaaaaaaaakh! I felt like crap bas his following sentence calmed me down, “You can now shift to any dept. you want” – I was thinking am a PR person, I need to interact with humans & go check things and take my own responsibilities… Now, since November 2002 till present; I’ve been holding on to this job as much as I can – not to mention the +10 times I quit of course!

My job is like my baby, it was created, I nurtured it then watched it grow… I have pride in what I do even if some tend to think my job is worthless or the fact that we don’t do mass marketing & splurge on ads like others bas I know when I work, I do it the hard way & with sincerity. I watched people come & leave – people go up fast then fall breaking their necks – I’ve watched the nasty get what he – she wants… oh I’ve seen it all & since the 5 years mark is just around the corner, I decided to tolerate this stinkin situation, suck it up to get what I deserve… we all work for money if we don’t get the titles!

Why am I rambling! Because although my tasks include things that managers & seniors do, I ain’t got that – the good designation! Although people my age at other jobs make twice as I do, I never ASKED bs also didn’t get it…. Although I do my best to make thing perfectly right – those who don’t do shit take more…. Am not envious bas this is not fair…. I know that life is not fair but one always tries to see the best in life & be optimistic… not any more…

The company is going through the appraisals time of the year; this has been going on since last month I guess bas just NOOOOW, Blue & myself get this form to fill- since we don’t have a direct manager & the CEO plays that role.

Now what confuses me honestly is how the hell I am supposed to evaluate my performance! How am I supposed to fill a form to give myself a proper appraisal! Well, I can fill this form with all of my achievements and waste my time knowing that all this won’t do good! Isn’t my boss supposed to do this! Isn’t he the one who’s supposed to decide what I deserve based on my performance! If I get one nickle 7amdellah, If I don’t ,its not meant for me… am writing the following on the form: “AS MY BOSS WANTS”! 6ab3an my mom reminded me like 6000 times to do the form..

All I say is… allah kareem! I hope I get what I deserve, which I know deep inside I do… I don’t want to put on wigs or speak like a whore to go up in life & if these are the only options… DUDE I DON’T WANT ANY OF THAT mentioned above!

Did I hurt your eyes with this looooooooooooooooooooong post… check Booby holding the birthday balloon :P

Now, I put a spell on YOU

Okkkk me mates! Let's move to another bummer! Bloggers, yeah YOU bloggers, I have those irritating questions in mind & would love someone to step up & answer the following with honesty!

1. Do you necessarily have to be friends with every single blogger on Safat!
2. Do you necessarily have to add every blogger that comments on your blog to your blogroll!
3. Do you necessarily have to be nice to people who bashed you in comments before!
4. Do you necessarily continue being nice to people who DO NOT write comments back to you!
5. Do you necessarily continue commenting on blogs of those who do not at least reply to your comments on their blogs!
6. Do you feel obliged to comment on every single freggin post that your friend bloggers write!
7. Do you have to be considerate of bloggers' feelings while posting on a certain subject!

  1. asoom Says:

well what have you been doing to get out of your ‘dead end’ job????

    1. don’t know what safat is
2.I add ones that add me, usually I ask them to add me and if they do then I add them
    3. why would you have to be nice?
    4. well it depends on their blog, their are alot of bloggers that I just love reading their blogs but they’ve never commented on mine and as far as I know don’t read mine but that doesn’t change the fact that I’m a fan of theris
    5. Same as above, if it’s a generic whatever average blog then I don’t, but there’s a couple of blogs that really like but I don’t get acknowledged by the blogger but that’s fine
    6. No, nor do I read them all!
    7. It depends on my relationship with the blogger and it depends on the bloggers tone in their post (like if they’re arrogant or hateful or very wrong thenI don’t care, but if I just disagree with them and they’re decent and respectful then I do put their feelingsin consideration).

    So what about you?

  2. asoom Says:

BTW interesting questions especially for new bloggers like me, maybe I’ll steal it and make a post of it! (then you can sue me since you’ve been wanting to sue someone LOL)

  3. Blue dress Says:

    Ok jad jad!

I say WRITE WHAT YOU WANT!
My mom has been working in a company for 15 years!
15 years! And she works with your philosophy, i don’t ask for anything….. lallaallaaaaaa!

No one is asking you to kiss ass!
all you have to do is ask but in the right way. Ya3ni your asking
    For your RIGHT! bijjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj
Bil3ax this requires guts and I know you always talk about that!
Now put your words into action.

P.S he doesn’t own the company which means 7alla 7al il employees no one knows your achievements akthar min yourself!

Am i done! That’s supposed to be a question, NO bes yabeli post kamilll … il mohim DANCE.

amma 3al questions i think 7ashich the boredom disease that caught bored Kuwaiti! ;p

  4. Amethyst Says:

    1. If you like them, why not?
    2. If they have you on their brogroll, have them on yours.
    3. Be nice when you feel like it.
    4. Same as #3.
    5. No
    6. No
    7. Post your opinion as honest but also as politely as you can.

  5. Chikapappi Says:

Amethyst.. enable the option so I could comment on your blog :)

  6. Yara Says:

No, No, No,No, No ,No and No :) actually #7 im with amethyst

and wow its good to know that as a graduate (this is my final year) im asking around alot about jobs and experiences and many things i would like to learn about :) Thanks Chika :*

  7. Chroma-Trauma Says:

.. I agree with Blue. I know that you lke your job which is Masha-Allah a very good thing but in the same time, strive and look for a better opportunity. You souldn’t be ashamed of that, that what you are supposed to do and that’s what Allah wants you to do.

    Now to the questions:

    1. Do you necessarily have to be friends with every single blogger on Safat!

    - No, I don’t have the energy nor the time to do that. I have a life beyond my Laptop. ^_^

    2. Do you necessarily have to add every blogger that comments on your blog to your blogroll!

    - No, You need to create a bond with that certain commentator. I included few bloggers to my blogroll who never commented on my blog but I like their blogs and I respect what they write in their blogs.

    3. Do you necessarily have to be nice to people who bashed you in comments before!

    - Not all the time, But it depends on your personality.

    4. Do you necessarily continue being nice to people who DO NOT write comments back to you!

-Why not ? I don’t know them, they didn’t cause any problem to me and why would I prevent my self from commenting just because they don’t write back.

    5. Do you necessarily continue commenting on blogs of those who do not at least reply to your comments on their blogs!

    - Answer same as No.4 + No.5.

    6. Do you feel obliged to comment on every single freggin post that your friend bloggers write!

    - Because you created a bond with that friend, You want to know more about him/her. Sometimes you can’t comment on every single post because you can’t be online 24/7 . I know I can’t because I have other responsibilities in life besides commenting.

    7. Do you have to be considerate of bloggers’ feelings while posting on a certain subject

    - Yes, you have to. Most of us don’t know each other on a personal level. We created a community without the need of a civil I.D.

    Interesting questions, Miss Chic ..

BTW, It’s adorable to be working with yur Mommy … So cute, Allah Ye5alikom Le Ba3ath.

  8. cixousianpanic Says:

    1. I’m actually only friends with the people I know in real life.
    2. No Just the ones you like reading.
    3. No
4 + 5. Hmmm… I dunno ;/ if you like them? may be they have a I don’t answer all comments policy or sometimes they might forget and post a new post and forget about the comments?
    6. No
    7. Ditto Amethyst’s point

ooooh oooh and also ditto Blue’s point on asking for a promotion :P

  9. Casttro Says:

mashalh intay tktbeen wayed la o kila bel English o mashalah englezetich 100% ana lo a3rf chthy chan darast 6eb hheheheehhehehe

    mashalah :)

  10. Prophet of Random Says:

I like your cat. Soo pretty.

  11. Rebellious Arab Girl Says:

Wow.. I was dumbfounded when I read this post about your job. I have also been working at the same job since 2002. I am also the only girl that works here I seen people come and go. Girls refused to stay, one quiet and made a fuss b4 hand and she was only here for month and a half. Girl programmers really are different. I learned to cope with things and just accept life. I am also under paid for what I am worth, but I accepted it so far because I am single, I live at home, and I don’t really need the money unless I want to go to shopping or whatever. Anyways, I like long detailed posts. I enjoy them more.

  12. Intlxpatr Says:

Ohhhh, way down here in comments I can’t remember all the questions! Chikapappi, comment when you feel like it! don’t comment when you don’t! We don’t always all agree on everything, we don’t all share the same interests, but it really is fun when we connect on something (like I love your cats and I think you are probably a pistol at your job!) This is supposed to be fun! Have fun! And don’t let it become a burden. We all have real lives, and real life beats blogging any day! ;-)

  13. TAT Says:

stick to what you believe in you gotta ride before you get rode on or ride or die

    1. Do you necessarily have to be friends with every single blogger on Safat!
    No

    2. Do you necessarily have to add every blogger that comments on your blog to your blogroll!
I consider it common courtesy but at times it is hard to keep track

    3. Do you necessarily have to be nice to people who bashed you in comments before!
Hell no but sometimes it helps to see why they are

    4. Do you necessarily continue being nice to people who DO NOT write comments back to you!
I usually just do my thing

    5. Do you necessarily continue commenting on blogs of those who do not at least reply to your comments on their blogs!
If the topic is worth commenting on yeah

    6. Do you feel obliged to comment on every single freggin post that your friend bloggers write!
Depends on the post and if we have any inside jokes or not

    7. Do you have to be considerate of bloggers’ feelings while posting on a certain subject!
I comment on what I want if they don’t like it they can chose to not show it, although I tend to do get on people’s nerves at times

  14. Chikapappi Says:

    - Asooma:

I haven’t done anything YET, I will wait to see what kind of action will be taken by my management to improve my status *keeping fingers crossed*
    1. Safat is the aggregator, where all the blogs from Kuwait get registered so all feeds from these blogs turn up on one page, easier for navigating posts & keeping connected.
    2. Yeah, that’s what I do, bas sometimes I just add people & they don’t do that bas I don’t care!
    3. Being nice is politeness – otherwise people tend to “label” you.
    4. Well,, same here bas it’s weird you know, we humans have this wanting to be “included” so it does irritate sometimes.. :)
    5. Rest is much t he same except for the feelings part- I tend to avoid certain subjects because I know I am sensitive & bound to leave a comment that someone won’t like so I just ignore, same goes for my posts – like religion, nationalities & cultural differences you know..

LOL girl, you can use whatever you want – JUST MENTION MY NAME :P or else, I’ll meet you in court ! hehehe

  15. Chikapappi Says:

    - Blue: I WILL YOU WATCH ME! Bas it’s practically begging for what is rightfully mine & I don’t like that at all. Your mom is maskeena :P *dancing*

Naaaaaaah, I’ll never be bored, just sometimes I think why some people are weird!

    - Amethyst: :) you’re a good girl, you know what to do huh… thanks for enabling the comments :*

-Yara: enti lessa mashofteesh 7aga!!! I say, take your time bel university girl! :)

  16. Chikapappi Says:

    - Chroma: Thanks 7abebti – I only Allah will give me what I deserve & what is mine… :)

    1. Well, I do have the energy bas some people are NOT friendly at all & that actually wastes my energy – my life is dull outside my screen :$
    2. Do you necessarily have to be friends with every single blogger on Safat!
    3. Again, brings us to the friendliness point, some people might not like it if you add them without permission, so I try to be careful.. I wait for “the sign”
    4. Well, I am nice bas some things I take personally so I have to react & that goes for the next points :)
    5. Well yeah I know.. I just try to be in touch as much as I can with those who I like & respect hence respecting my posts..

Thanks sweetie, same goes to you.. waiting for your next post :)

  17. Chikapappi Says:

    - Cixousianpanic: HELLOOOO!!! I love your blog :) – you’re on my roll :P
Hopefully we’ll get to meet in real life too! O yes, I will do something about my promotion!

    - Casttro: :P “Eljareeda” huh :P – I told you practice!

    - Prophet of Random…. “The MADAME of Sarcasm” :P – I LOVE YOUR POSTS- you make my day each time you post something while am at work! Your cat’s pretty too, yalla let’s get them together before he turns into a “she” :D

  18. pearls Says:

    1. Nope
    2. It’s sweet to add ppl to your blogroll if they comment
    3. Nope, I would just ignore them
    4. Yes, I would still be nice to them
    5. If they’re not replying back to any of my comments then I would really consider not leaving comments on their blogs at all, unless they have a good reason for not replying
    6. No, I don’t feel obliged to reply to every comment
    7. Yes, I don’t like to hurt anyone’s feelings

  19. Chikapappi Says:

    - Mona AKA RAG :P Detailed, some guy call it a jareedee LOL! I was pissed off – am ok now.. I know, same here o I told you 7amdella, work is for personality more than money to me, that’s why I want t he title… will see what happens..
P.S: I like your posts too – especially the family get together over food :D

    - Intlxpatr: I loooooooove your words! Thanks hun & yes I am trying to let this out because it’s heavy….. I like the Qatari cat too :)

-TAT: Mr. obnoxious :P I’d rather ride & drive LOL!
& yeah, we all basically agree on what to do with other fellow bloggers.. thanks for going through the post – I hope you didn’t curse me in the back of your mind because of how long it was :P

  20. Chikapappi Says:

    Pearletooooooooooooooo, where are you girl!

  23. Very.Q8ya Says:
