On Bad language…
After cussing everything & everyone around me– I sat down wondering, where & how the hell did I pick up all these bad words from?! Holly shit! It’s too much! I love venting..
Check this before: [ link ] *wiggles eyebrows*
I remember back at university & during my Sociolinguistics classes, I always wanted to ask the professor this question: “Why do people learn or are eager to learn the bad words when they are introduced- exposed to a new language!?” Sounds dumb?! Well maybe – I just am dumb then & you can sue me for that! The woman used to scare me! She gave me a D! Hehehe ! That’s the only D I got in my life!
I don’t give a shit at this moment about my grade! Would some one explain to a linguist – ME – why!? Why do we pick up the bad words in the beginning?

cause you need to express anger towards another person in the language that they speak.. what’s the point of swearing at someone if they don’t understand it?
- Hmm, bel3aks :) it gives you this rush! I use Planguage which is difficult to grasp & we get a kick out of it! :)

Naturally, to protect yourself from others. I can cuss in so many different languages and I learned most of the stuff when I was first exposed to the culture (yes, first thing, along with HI, and Thank You)
The idea was to know who’s upset with you… Especially if you can’t speak their language
So now I know, English, Arabic (Gulf, Iraqi, Syrian, Egyptian, Somali and even Moroccan, and some Maltese), French, Italian, Spanish, Persian, Turkish, Hindi, Russian, German, Korean, Chinese, Tagalog (Philippine) and Japanese cuss words.
What a wealth of knowledge :) huh?
- Bad knowledge of course! bas I gotta aruge with you, how come you curse o enta a bit fanatic with religion?! :P

in my opinion it’s because:
1) you wanna know if someone is trashing you
2) people wanna know the dirty words/private parts words coz they/we are sexual by nature
3) bad words are NOT boring like hello and goodmorning
having said that, I have the filthiest mouth ever and I’m not proud of it…I used the clean words replacement and counting to 10 and it worked :)
- *shakes hands with hammoodee*! LOL! Me too! ama try your way soon! bas the bad words are not only used for what you mentioned! Some people think it’s fun to use like Seraoolo = crazy in tagalog! :P

People who do not understand each other (language) are bound to be in conflict, and thus will swear at each other in the only language they know how!
- :) I know we do that bas I keep asking people I meet from different coutries to teach me at least ONE curse word – I just dunno why!!! :)
October 17th, 2007 at
i dnt know , and ur not dumb thats so true, the first thing some people learn in english are the curse words, i dnt know why though , sorry
- :$ Me too! I dunno why!

because these words portray so much emotion and by the way they are used would allow you a non-native speaker to quickly adapt to the workings of the language which in turn would accelerate your learning process through cognitive indigestion
- & what a way to accelerate the learning! LOL! :P

I think people swear when their angry because they don’t have the means to express their frustration, i.e. their artillery of decent vocabulary doesn’t relieve them as much as a swear word.
As for why someone would want to learn the bad words at the beginning of learning a language, I think it’s just childishness. You were a baby when you started learning to talk so when you learn a new language when you’re old maybe part of you reverts to the baby in you and you start acting childish and wanting to learn swear words :P
- LOL! I loved your reply! :) yeah, kinda chikdish I guess & you are right about the frustrated reply part – it’s just sad that good sense goes away when one is angry! :(

First. blame yourself, i would. And i do agree with 1001 kuwaiti nights. Plus people that tend to swear are usually the ones that are wrong in an argument for example. Btw you do tend to swear alot, more than the “average” person, etha there is an average limit. I would reccomend that you read the following post, maybe it could help.

I think its in our nature to want to learn “bad” things. Remember when we were kids? We were so interested in learning bad words! and our parents will punish us, and we will still try to say them. It still happens with kids today. They’re so eager to learn the latest swear words!
My advice to you is to try and curb it. I think there’s nothing worse than a guy or girl with a foul mouth :S
- :) It is under control babe, don’t worry! Only when am REALLLLLLLLLLLY MAD this happens, guess this is realy what I have to curb :P

I didn’t know you were a linguist! It provides some kind of “harmless release”
- Yes, Ms. Chika the dimwit linguis! :)

Talk to your peers and see how many times you use such words and talk to your parents and see if you use them at all. All I’m saying is these words have become a norm of everyday language usage, and people who say you should not use such language are blind to the fact that everyone uses these words in everyday conversation. Besides these words have lost their meaning in a sense cause the way they are pronounced and annunciated would in fact portray the meaning of the message to the recipient.
In the end of the day it all depends on context of usage and generally such words are normal to use within that context you see. I’m not advocating excessive use of such language, just if you think your taking the high ground and got your head so far up your ass take a step back and smell the coffee… Even my English professor said “fuck this shit” when he got angry does that mean he’s a bad person for using such words?
Just have a bit of common sense and you will know when it is appropriate to use it or not and if the person your addressing would get pissed off of you using it or not. In some places the usage of “internet terms” such as brb tyt and omg is frowned upon. It all comes down to context, the when and where, and the who.
- You know I agree with u thug :)

Oh I love Linguistics, I am thinking of getting a masters in Social linguistics!
I don’t really know because I don’t use words in that way. I am not used to and now that I have kids, I have to be careful lol but generally, no, I am not that kind of person. Nowadays, it seems like the normal way of talking, my son is always telling all the kids say bad words, even when they don’t know what they mean, and he seems to be of the few who don’t. I think TV plays a part BUT we all watch tv and listen to people, read books.. etc everyday in our life BUT we CHOOSE if we want to use them or not, and if you use them alot, it will become like a habit and seem like the normal way of talking.
- Very rational woman :) I like how you shited your life towards that of your kids & yes these words are norm now, depends on the person to use or ignore them :)

- GREY! :@ :0! 3eeeb! No good! never say it again! & THAT, ladies & gentlemen is the best exaple of how we pick up bad words without knowing what they mean! LOL! You’re funny :)

- LOL! :) One factor of my anger!
October 17th, 2007 at
Using bad words r the only way to express how bad u feel. (For me at least). Yet, I think it’s not that bad to use them .. I mean most of use such words with friends and maybe close friends only .. we don’t go and swear in pupblic! That is kind of being ur self with ur friends and faking it. + all of us have our naughty moments which is kind of fun. You reminded me of my self .. I remember buying a book called ((Dirty English)) years ago. That shows how naughty I was. 6b3aan 6fraa or habba or wat ever they call it. kel shy lah limits of course.
- I’ll personally test you this Saturday :P
