Bethany Beyond the Jordan – Jesus’s Baptism Site
For those of you complaining about these posts,Khalas! I promise this is the last one on sites I’ve visited in Jordan.. There are so many places to discover yet my time was short and I didn’t expect I’d need more money than I’ve planned! I mean, Hello! I nearly went broke shopping lol !! ma3lesh, I am a female and it’s in my blood! It was worth every “kersh” man!
I got this great guy – touristic driver they call them there and he plans the whole thing and I pay him a DECENT amount just to keep me safe!! I already have the next trip in mind and RUM is on the top of my list! I love love love exploring, walking around and meeting strangers!
El mohem, the Baptism site was the cap of a very long day and driving all around Jordan; Getting there took us through where the “3adwani” tribe lives and the driver was yapping about the fight that was all over the news

This village’s tour is around an hour, I mean the whole activity. You get the ticket and wait for the ride which is a pick up “sorta” but made in a way to take like 10 persons in the back.. more like army – prison ones so that was totally cool for me! I was the only Arab – besides some old geezers with a Japanese lady tourist that was not really comfortable I could tell because one of them was like really touchy bas we sat down taking pics in the beginning and I swear I was like: “Blair Witch project” kinda setting bas again, it’s cool! So the car drops us off and our walk began..

Ok, so that was on the way.. We didn’t get to the actual [ Baptism Site ] ! Walking through the woods and seeing the river was fascinating to me, I wish we had sites like that here *sigh* I will be very brief if you won’t go to Wiki and read:
John the Baptist used baptism as a means for forgiving sins. Jesus (sayyedna Essa PBUH) was baptized by him in Jordan’s river… Many Christians visit this place till date to baptize in the same river believe it or not although it’s right opposite the Israeli borders also neglecting the nature of the river’s muddy bottom. In the village, you’d get the chance to see John’s church and ruins besides other churches that are on the Israeli side and heavily protected.. Not to mention also the Jordanian troops there which is scary but I got to see a real Isra-zefti flag in nature! I wanted to see the troopers but I guess they ran away once they sensed my presence ! lol ! <— whatever I know!

I forgot to mention some fact about the river the guide told us about – He said that two years ago the river got to its highest levels and this year it’s dry as you see in the pics but Biblical wise, one day the river will be running again and again I lacked sufficient focus since I was busy taking pics..
And then we got to the borders! :o the horror!! The funniest thing happened! As soon as the Russian guys saw the river, they started stripping and one of them went in! The Jordanian army guy came down and he was like: “Niet niet!” meaning No ! We all stood there panicked then he asked if anyone speaks Arabic! LMAO ! I asked him even if we speak Arabic, how would that help since those guys didn’t even speak English! Between me n’ you, those guys turned out to be fluent in English but they played dumb because they wanted to “wash away their sins” I guess!
Unfortunately for me, no soldiers on the other side to “shoot” but there was a Korean group and they were hilarious! They took so many pictures of me, God only knows where will they post them! lol!

Thanks for taking me on a tour of my own country here. There are some new excavations I hadn’t seen yet!:)
Our church has bi-annual baptisms here, I think a couple of my kounouz may choose to be baptized this spring.
You inspired my inner-wanna-be scholar, here is another tidbit:
When John the Baptist baptized Jesus Christ, he said: “Behold the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world”. Jesus didn’t need sins washed away, and from then on baptism was a sign confirming one’s belief that Christ Himself was the one who cleansed one from sin, rather than something necessary to be forgiven of sin. He said “Believe and be baptised”.
So that Russian guy, I guess, just wanted a little added blessing of assurance. :)
