Fas restaurant is owned by a Moroccan gentleman who happens to be a teacher at the Lycee Française de Koweit as I understood from him over our telephone conversation and he just wants to bring the authentic homey meals of Morocco to Kuwait so this post is for you dude! If you ever come across this post!

What’s nice about this place is that they have specific daily meals along the week to order from besides the traditional dishes, sweets and Moroccan tea <3

I ordered the 7 veggies koskos with meat and the man got himself a tajin of chicken, olives and lemon

We received a complementary salad with the order, regular but it had deli pickles in it

A traditional Moroccan “khoboz” bread loaf was included in the meal as well

This is the man’s order = Tajin chicken with lemon, potato and olives.It was ok and it comes with the bread or you can eat that with koskos

And the star of the order was the chicken basteela! It was delicious!

Basteela is a pie made from think filo dough, in Syrian kitchen we call them “bo2aj” = pouches. The one I ordered was filled with chicken and it has to have almonds, cinnamon and sugar <3 beautiful combination and taste! This one was great I tell you.

Ok,

1. Koskos portion compared to the veggies was big.

2. Red sauce comes better with veggies so I hope they change this or I dunno maybe on that specific day it was like that.

3. Need more meat in the dishes specially Red meat. My dish had tiny pieces!

Place is cute and they have seating in it though it’s tiny. Pre order 2 hours before since they cook it from scratch.

My husband decided to stop over and pick some fatayer from Firin as I informed him that they bake those along with “sweets”, of course Gluten free but never had I thought that a small size fatera or open pie or “pizza” would cost as much! Ok, I understand that you care for your ingredients, you care for the final product, you care about your image and packaging but you guys should seriously consider your prices to make it affordable to those who really suffer from GI.. We just wanted to give it a try but that was the most expensive piece of “man2oosheh” ever! If God forbid I suffered from GI, I wouldn’t go buy them! I’d cook them myself at home since I was informed it’s not hard to prepare anything Gluten Free at home!

What pisses me off is that I tried their cake and cupcakes, they are very good bas those are over priced as well! BUT NOT LIKE THE FATAYER! Read my previous post on them [ HERE ]

Ok… Do you want to know how much those 3 fatayers cost!??! KD 11 – YES, ELEVEN KUWAITI DINARS :o Imagine! that would get a family meal from KFC! burgers with fried for 2 from Johnny Rockets! Lord! 4 meals from any fast food joint! a gazillion za3tar fteera from a regular bakery!

Come on! To Firin and Sultan, over pricing diabetic and Gluten Free produce !

It was not me obsessed with the machine but the man, he even called a friend of his working at Nestle asking him for a free one! Friend was shocked and that’s the suitable word to use for his blunt request and he wouldn’t sleep on the subject even as we passed by its stand at Sultan Center and my good self trying to get the idea of having another coffee machine in the kitchen out of his mind… all failed! He walks in with grocery bags one day and suddenly pops a box with a “Tadaaaaa” note! And it now stands proud next to the [ Nespresso ] machine :/

I think the one we have is called Genio, slim, shiny, futuristic and he chose Red to match other appliances in my kitchen as well as the Nespresso Machine. Upon reading the manual I was totally confused since making your drink requires measuring liquid (Water) and thankfully I have measuring cups. I think on the long run, one has to figure that on his – her own for each drink has 2 capsules (Cappuccino or Chococino) and to make cold drinks you have to add ice and when I attempted to make iced cappuccino it turned out miserable

And that’s the cappuccino, ruined iced one that it!

1. Box containing capsules should include more. Nespresso has this big box with around 250 capsules I think for a decent price. I don’t have to go out of stock & rush to buy them. I don’t know how much are the capsules but package should be affordable I guess.

2. Why have specific liquid measurement! Can’t it do the “calculation” on its own?or the indicators on the machine available for that reason?!

3. They should sell mugs of suitable sizes, I couldn’t use just any glass for the iced cappuccino!

4. I could use the Nespresso machine with a shaker to create a wonderful iced mocha or buy their accessories available at their boutique. What’s new about this machine? One could rent the Nestle drinks machine for free opposite to paying for the drinks on monthly basis, dunno if that applies to individuals.

Bottom line, I don’t like it.. bas!

I scanned [ Baby Center ] and that’s been really helpful with tuoturials and shared experiences with the rest of the enrolled mommies around the world. I also went through [ Wholesome Baby Food ] for more recipes and what to avoid for certain age groups and whatnot.. really helpful! I am also following Jumana Al-Awadhi owner of [ We Love Kuwait ] on her quest to feed her own children organic food, healthier twist on what’s in market today and she’s doing great! Subscribe to her YouTube channel [ HERE ] for more on that.

Another great option vs. online researching was Jareer Bookstore; They have a good selection of baby food recipes and I went ahead long before she started eating and got me this book in the pic below “Cooking for Babies”. It covers ages from early as 6 till after 12 months.

It provides parents with useful guides on food items to give & avoid to the child, tips on potential hazards, clear picture illustrations that guide moms step by step to prepare the recipe, QTY and storing options.recipes include meat, chicken, fish, veggies of course as well as baked items like cupcakes, puddings, custard & cheese fingers which is next on my list to introduce to her!

I was surprised she liked baby Dhal with the spices in it!

Till now, the recipes I’ve tried she liked very much and I am quite content with the portions she’s taking and enshallah she continues like this… of course my parents are spoiling her with all the bafak – baked cheese puffs and chocolate they treat her with but we make sure she takes in flavored yogurt as well and natural juices.

What do you feed your baby?

I didn’t have a camera on me so I used my iPhone and we were so hungry so I didn’t catch the names of the dishes or of the place itself but here it goes:

I had a salad which contained Rocca, Mozzarella, pines, Balsamic vinegar & dried tomatoes & it was very good for a person who doesn’t like Rocca that much, I wish I could remember its name! Urgh! Along each decided to try out an appetizer dish….

The Asian something … :/ Beef with Soya sauce on skewers, Veggie Spring Rolls and a fish cake – All excellent!

That’s another starter with nachos, cheese sticks and onion rings.. no name recall either! Damnit, I am senile!

Aqua something… Shrimps, calamari and god knows what else

Let’s get down to the real stuff, I decided to grill some veal 500 Gms to be specific ;p chose the marinade which was ChimmeChuri, medium well for the meat and it was perfect. I ate the whole thing sitting opposite to the man’s friend who was amazed by the fact how stretchable my tummy is :) mashallah!

And one’d think that after all the above, we’d not have extra space for dessert but we just had to! I picked the Dates & Chocolate cake = heavenly!

Friend decided to try the Ying Yang dish with Wasabi custard or brulee I guess.. Not my choice of sweets & he said it’s ok

I of course didn’t see the bill either, I’m only good for eating! After that meal I felt so heavy and went to my parents’ house where I collapsed on my sister’s bed and slept in my clothes! I would go again just to sit outside – beautiful exterior seating area & I am not sure about grilling my food because I like things ready! What I liked is that we didn’t smell of grilling unlike Stone Grill.

Many bloggers posted on Heavenly Bagels before, I was silently tortured by the photos and the fact that I love me some bagels, healthy ones are the best. Sitting hungry  yesterday at office, I decided to give them a try <– When am I not hungry anyways! :/

I called & placed my order of 1 Turkey Club Bagelwich on Wheat bagel and a Saucy Sausage on plain bagel from their breakfast options for my mom. This is my review on them:

I received my order in a paper bag – a “Thank you” note written on the sticker tag. In other blogs I saw fancy bags but that doesn’t make a difference because the bagels themselves come in nice boxes

I love them boxes! Bagels are cozy and well wrapped in them

This is my order, came along with fries and some Dill pickles aside – passed fries to mother of course

This is the lightly toasted bagel, good portion and rich with ingredients

Turkey Club Bagelwich consists of Seared Turkey on layers of mayo, Honey Mustard, turkey bacon, pickles, & Bibb lettuce,
topped with Cheddar cheese, Tomato, and a fried Egg – BAS! Look at that cheese! Num!

A hearty meal! I was good to go till dinner because this thing is loaded!

This was the bill for 2, fair enough I suppose..

6ab3an, we walk in full of confidence with a big smile, greeted by the staff… mesmerized by the beautiful balloons & set up for that special occasion to be really disappointed when the waitress (or whatever her position is) informed us that it’s fully booked and we’d have to wait AND even if we wait, it’s not guaranteed that we have a table! OK! Maybe no one would cancel but man called 3 days in advance & asked and he was informed that booking is NOT required! WTF! I was so angry but I swore that that won’t ruin the evening as that lady kept on asking: “what’s the name of the person who answered?” “Maybe you called another restaurant!” <– WHAT THE HELL! So I finally opened my mouth to tell her: “What difference does it make if I give you the name?! I have a baby and I left her to come here but khalas.. YALLA let’s leave” ! Her lame excuse is that they sold tickets! No one heard of those tickets!

We got in the car, argued a bit then called The Meat Co. at Mall 360 to make a reservation and we got lucky but then traffic was a bitch… I thought to myself if we don’t make it, I’m getting me some KFC! We arrived early and the place looked “normal” or should I say “un-festive” of Valentine’s then I was surprised when they handed me a Red rose, actually all the ladies dining there got one which is a cute gesture – and it was the only rose I got yesterday!

For starters we ordered the Beef Carpaccio which is thin raw meet with the Rocca salad on top, delicious as well as the Tiger Prawns dish (No photo) which came with rice. Only take is that the portion is too little for 2! Hell for 1 even! I am so used to American diners portions!

Choice of steak was the Australian Angus Golden Fillet, 300 Gms for each – mashed potatoes, fries, veggies & sauce on the side – I also didn’t take pics but this is basically what it looks like

I always order my meat medium well – Pink from the inside and that thing was so tender, it’s like cutting through butter.. love it!Half way through dinner and on the beats of the South African drums celebrating a birthday, we were told that there’s a free photo for the couples and I said yes!

We waited for the pictures but what was sweet is that they handed over the picture in frames <3! isn’t that the cutest thing ever! What a lovely way to remember that night which was great thanks to The Meat Co.’s staff!
